Aero Towing

Aero towing is a name given to the procedure we now use to get a hang glider into the air.
A purposely built Microlight, that can fly slow enough with sufficient power tows a hang glider
into the air up to the desired altitude.  There is no more need for mountains.

All Hang Glider pilots who end up doing aero towing will first have to undergo an intensive
training session over two to three weekends. First they will be involved with the setup of
equipment and be towing marshals for a day, next they will do an aero towing course by
means of video footage and a lecture.
When they are ready to finally hook up to the tow line they will  have all the information they
need for good and safe towing.  All new aero tow pilots will first do a minimum of three aero
tows in early morning conditions or very late smooth conditions under radio communication
with an instructor to let them get used to the speed and technique required for a safe tow.
Once they have mastered this we take them up in little stronger conditions and start with
cross wind launching etc. One of the best things about aero towing is that the wind no longer
plays a  factor any longer for launching. The wind can be 90” cross or even from behind and
you are still able to launch. The hang glider just sits on the dolly and once the glider reaches
the correct airspeed it will rotate and you become airborne
